Project Update June 29, 2020

Lyndon Broadband Project Status Update

The Lyndon Township Broadband Implementation Committee would like to provide a project summary, an update on the work that has been completed to date and an installation schedule for residents who are not yet connected.

The volunteers that make up the Implementation Committee recognize our responsibility to our fellow Lyndon Township residents for the project schedule and budget. We will continue to strive to complete the project as soon and as responsibly as possible.

SUMMARY
As you would expect, COVID-19 and the ensuing Executive Orders from the Governor have had an impact on the project. There was a period of reduced activity that has impacted the project schedule. Currently all contractors have returned to work at normal staffing levels.

You may recall from the last update that additional work was needed to resolve issues with the fiber placement and splicing in Central Office and Boyce zones done by Henkels & McCoy. That work has been completed and most of the homes in these areas are online.

Work has been underway to install a redundant, geographically diverse underground cable route to service Lyndon Township. Having redundant fiber routes creates a safety net such that if something were to happen to either fiber cable, service to the Township would not be interrupted. When in place, this will prevent future occurrences of the type of outage we recently experienced.

Home installations are proceeding at a significant pace. It is important for residents who receive calls from MEC to schedule home installation to respond in a timely manner. The number of home installations technicians are capable of completing in any given week is being impacted as a result of non-response to scheduling calls. Calls from MEC should originate from:

According to current information, all home installations will be completed by the 4^th quarter of this year.

MILESTONES
Mainline boring and conduit installation are complete

Mainline fiber placement is 87% complete (only Ellsworth zone remains).
All fiber placement will be finished by July 15.

Drops
592 of 883 are completed.
Drops are nearly complete in the Sugarloaf, Guinan and Long Lake zones. Drops will start in the Wild Goose area in early July. Please review the Drop Information. This will provide the sequence of events from the drop installation through home installation, including information on home installation by a technician and self – installations.
All drops are scheduled to be completed by September 1.
