At the August 14th meeting of the Lyndon Township Board, the Broadband Implementation Committee put forward their recommendation of Henkels and McCoy for the Outside Plant (OSP) constructor for the Lyndon Township Broadband Project. The Board accepted the committee’s recommendation and awarded the construction contract for the project to Henkels and McCoy. Henkels and McCoy is a leading infrastructure construction and engineering contractor with projects spanning the United States (http://www.henkels.com/)
Construction is scheduled to begin October/November 2018. Phase one will be to complete the primary fiber connection to the Lyndon Township Hall via Werkner Road, Island Lake Road, and Territorial Road. Once this is completed, work will then begin on building out the main line fiber in the southeast corner of the township. This area is scheduled to be completed by December 31, 2018. The contractor will then complete the remaining work in the Township on or before September 30, 2019.
As you can see, the completion date of the project has been extended beyond its original estimated date. There are two very important reasons for this extension. First of all, this extension will result in overall savings for the project by lowering construction costs. Secondly, it will provide necessary time to inspect and certify that the construction meets all design, regulatory, safety and operational specifications.
It is also worthy to note that the residents of Lyndon Township have undertaken a project that is one of the first of its kind in the state of Michigan. Being first often brings with it challenges that require extra effort and time to solve. Those who follow us will certainly benefit from the work we have accomplished.
The Board also approved the contract rates for the Lyndon Township broadband provider – Midwest Energy and Communication (MEC). The monthly rates to be provided by MEC for internet, phone and managed wi-fi are:

Installation
If you sign up for service before April 30, 2019, there will be no installation fees. For anyone who signs up after this date, there will be a fee to bring service from the main line to your residence: $300 for up to 300 feet of line installation. Additional feet are charged at $1.00 per foot.
